Frankly, I feel like I have nothing clever to say about the Golden Notebook so far. Doris Lessing seems to be concerned with a lot of different topics, the most obviously being womens' rights and sexuality, but also socialism, colonialism, war, racism, homosexuality, family life and writing are among the themes reflected on in the reading for tomorrow and I'm sure we will discuss one or the other of these in class. Compared to the other novels we read so far, Lessing's style of writing seems to be the most conventional (omniscient narrator in "Free Women" and Ann as first-person-narrator in the notebook) and thus is easy to read, especially for me as a foreigner. The plot is also quite enthralling and straight-forward, although this will change, according to the introduction. So I'll just wait, what will happen on the next 500 pages...
