Forest Brothers (mentioned on page 296 in my (very old) copy): baltic guerilla group which fought against Soviet and communist oppression in Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia, during World War II and the early 1950s. They were given the name "Forest Brothers" because they used the baltic woods as their shelter. Their war against communism was supported by western intelligence services, such as the British MI6.

Throughout the Golden Notebook the theme of being split (because of conflicting emotions or ideals; also seen in the four notebooks that all show a different part of Anna) and detaching oneself form oneself (e.g. Ella watching Ella sleeping with Cy from the other side of the room) plays a major role. This scene from "The Matrix" was the first to come into my mind when thinking about splitting one's person(ality).
